Aimee's Achievements

I am incredibly proud to share that last week I graduated from Newcastle University with a First Class Honours degree in Psychology (with a Professional Placement Year)! ðŸŽ“

One of the highlights was achieving a 75% for my empirical research project titled ‘Does Location Matter? The Effect of Outreach Delivery Setting on Primary School Children’s Perceptions, Interest and Self-Efficacy in Science’. I am so grateful to my supervisor Elizabeth Price for your guidance, support and the opportunity to conduct research in the amazing schools I worked with during my placement year. A huge thank you also to Francesca De Petrillo, George Rands and the rest of the Science Adventures team for making the experience so enjoyable and impactful!

Another proud moment was being awarded the ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Workplace’ Award at the Newcastle University Awards last month. My placement and continued work at Building Self-Belief CIO has been the most rewarding part of my university experience and has completely shaped my future which I am eternally grateful for. Starting my placement in September 2024, I would have never imagined receiving this award. Thank you to Christine Thomas FRSA and Peter Thomas for the wealth of opportunities you have given me and your kind words in my nomination. To have played even a small role in the charity’s impact over the past two years is a great privilege and I am so grateful to every inspirational young person I have worked with for teaching me so much about resilience, friendship and community.

I am now so excited to begin my role as a Trainee Education Mental Health Practitioner for Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in September- a role which has been my dream since beginning university! The past four years have been nothing short of incredible, and being offered this job on the day of my graduation was the perfect culmination of my time in Newcastle. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to celebrate the end of this chapter!

A huge thank you to all of the lecturers within the School of Psychology, especially my personal tutor Caroline Allen, who have made studying psychology the most enjoyable experience. Finally, thank you to my family and friends for all of your continued support! ðŸ«¶ðŸ«¶

Designing a Steel Statue for Consett

On Tuesday 28th January, we hosted a fundraiser and design session to generate some ideas about what the community want the Ray Lonsdale statue to look like. We were very lucky to have renowned artist Ray Lonsdale with us, who gave a talk about his artistic journey and past designs, and answered all of our questions about his statues and how we should go about creating our own for Consett.
