The Importance of Work Based Learning - Serena

Serena is our latest intern from the University of Sunderland. As part of their final year in their Psychology degree, students get a work placement option, and Serena spent on average one day a week over the academic term here with us at Building Self-Belief. I asked Serena if I could share her thank you message, as I feel it gives a brilliant insight into how important work placements are, alongside academic work. We thoroughly enjoyed having Serena as part of the team, and we are delighted she got so much ot of it!

Serena's Thank You Message

I honestly can't thank you enough for everything you and the team did for me during my placement. From the moment I joined, you all made me feel so welcome, included, and supported. I never felt like "just a placement student". You involved me in meaningful projects, trusted me with responsibilities, and always encouraged me to learn and grow. That meant so much to me.

One of the things I appreciated the most was the positive and supportive environment you created. I never felt unnecessary pressure, which allowed me to build my confidence, enjoy my placement, and make the most of every opportunity. Looking back, it was such an important part of my final year, and I'm so grateful that I had the chance to learn from all of you.

I'm really happy to share that I achieved a First Class in my final-year placement module, and I genuinely believe that wouldn't have been possible without your guidance, encouragement, and the opportunities you gave me. Thank you for believing in me and helping me become more confident both personally and professionally.

I also wanted to send you a few of my graduation photos because I truly feel that you were part of this achievement. Your support played such an important role in my journey, and I wanted to share this special moment with you.

If you ever have some free time, I'd love to catch up over a coffee or whenever it's convenient for you.

Also, if there are any future projects, events, volunteering opportunities, or work where you think I could help, I would absolutely love to be involved. It would mean a lot to stay connected and continue working with such an amazing team.

Thank you once again for your kindness, patience, support, and for making my placement such a positive and memorable experience. I'll always be grateful, and I hope our paths cross again soon. Wishing you and everyone on the team all the very best!

Dealing With Anxiety

At aged 11, my son suffered a breakdown of mental health, and was off school for pretty much 4 years. He has never spoken about what he has been through these last few years openly, but yesterday wrote a blog and presented me with his account, and wanted it shared. This is his story.
