Commemorating The 1826 Stargate Pit Disaster
Here is a documentary showcasing the wonderful work completed by Year 5 and Year 6 pupils at Crookhill Primary School as they explored the history and impact of the Stargate Pit Disaster, 200 years after the tragedy took place. Through poetry, artwork, discussion, and a visit to Beamish Living Museum, pupils learned about what happened at Stargate Pit and reflected on the effect the disaster had on the families and wider local community.The project gave pupils the opportunity to connect with an important part of local history in a creative and meaningful way. A huge thank you to all the pupils and staff at Crookhill Primary School for their enthusiasm, creativity, and hard work throughout the project.

The Learning for Life Sensory Room Project | Building Self-Belief
Young people from Consett Academy and Learning for Life joined forces to design and equip and new sensory space. They challenged youth loneliness, broke down social barriers, built lasting friendships and engaged with local businesses. It was a fabulous project and we all loved every minute of it. The Programme was funded by the Derwent Valley AAP and supported by local businesses.

Maddy Parkin, 32. Photographer running a business specialising in wedding photography. Her main job role is taking photos of my customers' weddings, however, there is a lot of work that goes into this: editing in creative software, creating online galleries, marketing, blog posts, liaising with customers, writing and amending contracts and creating shot lists, arranging client meetings, and more. Building Self- Belief are currently delivering and Employability Programme at Consett Academy. As part of the sessions, we discuss the importance of volunteering and how impressive this is to employers – especially when young people are channelling their energy into a good cause.
