Let's Get Digital North East

We had an inspiring day at the Let’s Get Digital North East event at St James' Park, delivered in partnership with Digital Unite and Capgemini. It was fantastic to see so many people from across the public, private and VCSE sectors come together to share ideas, challenge thinking, build connections and make action pledges around digital inclusion.

Throughout the day, we heard powerful stories from organisations supporting communities across the North East, including young people and those living in rural areas. The conversations highlighted just how important collaboration is when tackling digital exclusion, and how much can be achieved when organisations work together and share knowledge, experience and resources.

We were also proud to present about the important role young people can play in digital inclusion. During our session, we shared how young people are helping support older people to build confidence with technology through our Toasty Tuesday club. From helping with phones and tablets to supporting people to access online services and stay connected, it showed how intergenerational learning can make a real difference within communities.

'Was the Sacrifice Worth It?'

This project was created to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the 1826 Stargate Pit Disaster near Ryton, Gateshead. This moving poem focuses on the perspective of a mother questioning the terrible cost of sending her sons to work in the mines after losing them in the disaster.
