Teenage Cancer Trust

Kye's Kick Off / May 30th, 2025

Kye's Kick Off was a charity football match in memory of Kye Cunnington, who passed away with Leukemia on the 19th December 2024 after a year long battle with Ewing's sarcoma.

Kye's peers at Boldon School wanted to organise an event to honour and remember Kye. Kye's Kick Off was the perfect way to get the whole community involved, while raising money and awareness of children's cancer.

Kye and his family were supported by Teenage Cancer Trust at the Great North Children's Hospital during his treatment, therefore Kye's parents chose this charity for all the funds to be donated to, to enable Teenage Cancer Trust to continue supporting families like Kye's.

Teenage Cancer Trust offers unique care and support, designed for and with young people. They fund specialised nurses, youth workers and hospital units in the NHS, so young people have dedicated staff and facilities to support them throughout treatment.

They run events for young people with cancer to help them regain independence and meet other young people going through something similar. And they provide easy-to-understand information about every aspect of living with cancer as a young person.

Careers Event at North Durham Academy, Stanley.

On Thursday 23rd January 2025, we hosted a Careers Event at North Durham Academy, sponsored by Karbon Homes, which was a huge success! We had 30 visitors kindly give up their time to speak to the students about their careers, job roles, companies and their journeys to get to their current positions. The students then had the opportunity to ask questions to the visitors to find out more about their choices at 16, what qualifications are required for their job and any challenges or barriers they have faced in their career.
