"Trapped" Poem - South Stanley Junior School
This poem was created by Scarlett, Tilly, Raya, Year 6 pupils from South Stanley Junior School as part of our 'Celebrating Stanley' project. It is based on the West Stanley Pit Disaster and captures the fear and desperation of being trapped underground, echoing the experience of miners on that tragic day.

Improving the Self-Belief of Teenage Girls
Our film documents and explains the impact of our Building Self-Belief programme with Year 9 Girls at Consett Academy, County Durham. The programme helps the young people to grow in confidence and encourages them to be more aspirational about their future careers. It was a privilege to work with them.

David is 71 years old and was born in the Richard Murray Hospital at Blackhill, which was where everybody was born, and lived on Benfieldside Road in Blackhill. His father was a ‘Bevin Boy’, during the war you were either sent as a soldier or down the mines, if you were unlucky the mines were worse.
